3rd July 2026
This week in English, we started reading our new book, SuperJoe Does NOT Do Cuddles. We have really enjoyed getting to know the characters and following SuperJoe's adventures. We learnt the new vocabulary word nemesis, which means a rival or enemy. In our story, Grey Shadow is SuperJoe's nemesis and causes all sorts of problems, including setting a hungry tiger loose and sawing through a wooden bridge!
We also enjoyed taking part in a hot-seating activity where one of us became Grey Shadow while the rest of the class asked questions in role. We thought of some brilliant questions, such as, "Why are you so mean to SuperJoe?" and "How did you find the tools to cut the bridge in half?" This helped us to think more deeply about the character's motives.
We have also been learning about synonyms—words that have a similar meaning. We explored synonyms for the word dangerous, including risky, perilous and unsafe, and synonyms for fast, such as speedy, rapid and quick.
In Maths, we have all enjoyed using our mini clocks to practise telling the time. We have been making o'clock, quarter past and quarter to times and worked with our partners to read and make different times confidently.
In PSHE, we completed one of our transition activities. We reflected on what we will miss about Year 2, what we are looking forward to in Year 3, and the things we would like to get better at. It was lovely to hear the children's thoughtful ideas, and everyone is very excited for Transition Day next week.
Finally, we are incredibly excited about performing our end-of-year show for our grown-ups! We have been putting the finishing touches to our performance and practising our songs, lines and actions. On Monday, we will have our dress rehearsal with costumes, and we can't wait to share all of our hard work with you very soon!
