A lovely final week in Reception with some lovely, Christmassy activities. All reading and library books have been collected for the end of term - the children have worked incredibly hard this term and deserve a big rest! Thank you to everyone who joined us for biscuit decorating last week - we hope you enjoyed it!

Phonics -

Graphemes, sh, th, ng, nk. Th has 2 sounds, known as voiced (that makes a buzzing sound) & unvoiced (where you push the air out).

Tricky words - she, push, he, of.

Some words we have written - fix, fill, jam, leg.

Maths -

This week, the children have continued to engage with activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting – to find out ‘how many’ objects there are. The children have also revisited the concept of cardinality – that the last number in the count tells us how many things there are altogether. A key focus this week has been the stable order principle – rehearsing the order of the first 5 numbers and understanding that the position each number holds in our number sequence does not change. While continuing to work with numbers to 5, the children are developing their understanding of the ordinal aspect by investigating the difference in value of consecutive whole numbers. Using interlocking cubes and squares to order quantities from 1-5, we have spent time discovering that each number has a value of 1 more than the previous number.

A huge thank you from everyone in Reception for the incredibly kind gifts and lovely cards, we are very, very grateful! Wishing you all a lovely Christmas break. A reminder that January 5th is an INSET day and school will reopen Tuesday 6th Jan. Our topic in January is 'Who can help us?' If you would like to come to Reception and talk to us about your job, please email admin to organise a date and time.
