Weekly News, Autumn B, Week Commencing: 8th December
What a wonderful week in year 2!
Announcements: Please can we kindly ask that all library and reading books are returned this week ahead of the Winter break. Thank you!
English: This week in English we have been continuing to work on our letter writing skills, using our class text Dragon Post! So far, we have explored the different language used in informal communication – like text messages and emails – and more formal communication, like official legal letters! The children have blown us away with their wonderful ideas about how to respond appropriately, using great vocabulary and sentence structure. Well done, Year 2!
Maths: We have now completed our unit on Addition and Subtraction – well done everyone, you have made such super progress! It always helps to keep practicing at home. Any opportunities to keep adding and subtracting together over the holidays will really help us with our maths fluency and accuracy. This week, we have started working on 2D and 3D shapes, investigating their properties and using proper mathematical names and vocabulary too. Why don’t you ask us what vertices are? (Some children might even remember what a rhombus and trapezium are too!)
Phonics: We have been continuing to work hard on our Phonics over the last few weeks, reviewing all the work we have covered so far and continuing with our guided reading in class. This week’s sounds were as follows...
/J/ - j (jaw), g (giant), ge (large), dge (edge)
/s/ - s (silly), ss (freshness), c (cell), ce (fence), se (sense), st (whistle), sc (science)
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
