Another busy week in Reception with lots of fantastic learning, have a lovely long weekend.
Phonics -
Graphemes - ff, ss, ll, j.
Tricky word - pull, put, full, as. The 'u' in pull, put & full makes an 'oo' sound, and the 's' in as makes a 'z' sound, which makes these words tricky words.
Maths -
This week, the children have built on their understanding of the composition of numbers by investigating the composition of 3, 4 and 5. Composing and de-composing numbers involves the children investigating part–part–whole relations, e.g. seeing that 3 can be composed of 1 and 2. We have used practical experiences for the children to consolidate their understanding of a whole being made up of smaller parts. A key focus has been recognising that spatial arrangements can be made with different combinations of the same number of objects.
Topic -
Continuing our learning of what is all around us, we have read the story Moon this week, recapping our knowledge of nocturnal animals and the life that is all around us. We used oil pastels to recreate a picture from the story, with some lovely discussions about the animals we share a home with.
Upcoming dates -
