Geography Trip
A big well done to all the children for doing an amazing job finding the different landmarks around Hitchin! They worked hard, reading clues about key spots like the church, Windmill Hill, and Town Hall. Along the way, they took a closer look at both the human-made and natural features of the town. Some fantastic sketches were created of the cobbled stones, high windows, and even ducks swimming under the bridge. Great work, everyone!
English
We have started our new unit- Traditional Tales in English. We have been sorting through the fairytales we already know and have so far have talked about the common features of fairytales. These include- talking animals, characters such as kings and princesses and how there’s always a goodie and a baddie in the story. This week we read The Three Billy Goats Gruff retold by Mac Barnett. In this version the third Billy Goat rammed into the troll, who flew off the bridge into the rapids and over the waterfall!
Maths
In Maths Fluency, we have been working on finding groups of numbers to add and subtract. The children are practicing their skills by breaking numbers into smaller, manageable groups, which is helping them get quicker and more confident with their calculations.
Topic
This week, we evaluated our bunting designs. The children drew their finished products and gave them a rating out of five stars. They thought carefully about what they liked and what they could improve next time. Some great ideas came up, such as adding more stars, making the gaps between running stitches smaller, and choosing brighter colours. In PSHE, we are thinking about who our safe adults are and how we can be safe on the roads and in an emergency.
