Well done Reception for a wonderful first half term at Strathmore! Wishing everyone a lovely, restful week off.
Phonics -
Recap of graphemes - g, u, k, f, m.
Recap of tricky words - I, is, the.
Maths -
We have focussed on comparing quantities this week, where the children have been encouraged to look carefully to describe sets of objects that they can see. Language has been a key focus where we have used 'more than' and 'fewer than' to describe how many objects there are in each set. ‘Fewer than’ is used rather than ‘less than’ because the focus is on countable things.
Activities for home -
- Set up a game of skittles, using empty plastic bottles or similar items, and allow the children to try knocking them down by rolling a large, soft ball. Ask: who has knocked over more than […]? How do we know? Who has knocked over fewer than […]?
Topic -
We had a very important question to ask ourselves as our first half term comes to an end: what makes me, me? We enjoyed reading the story All the Ways to be Smart, learning that we can be smart in so many different ways - drawing, dressing up, showing kindness to others, and using our imaginations, to name a few. We shared what makes us smart as a class before drawing all the things that makes us unique on a piece of paper with our own photo on. We were so impressed at how carefully the children drew all the special things about themselves, and the beautiful ideas they had.
Notices -
All Tapestry observations will be uploaded over half term, so please make sure you have activated your account.
Please ensure spare clothes and wellies have been brought in.
Please consider sending in waterproofs that can also live on the children's pegs. As the weather changes, we'll continue to be in the garden and on the playground for lunch times.
A reminder that phonics books must be brought in every Friday. A new book cannot be sent out until the original has been returned.
