19th June 2026

We started off the week with an exciting visit to Wilshere-Dacre to attend the Year 6 Enterprise Day. Some of the stalls we enjoyed spending our money on included 'Goal Getter', 'Soak a Year 6' and 'What’s in the Box?' We came away with lots of little goodies and some of us even had our faces painted and tattoos applied by some very talented Year 6 pupils. We used our exciting morning as inspiration for our English learning and wrote a recount of our visit. We focused particularly on writing in the past tense and using descriptive language to explain our thoughts, feelings and experiences throughout the morning. The children did a fantastic job bringing their experiences to life in their writing!

In DT, we have designed our photo frames. We discussed what our design criteria should be and thought carefully about what makes a successful product. Some of our suggestions included creating a frame that is strong, stable and practical enough to hold a special piece of artwork or a treasured photograph. We are very excited to begin using the saws (with close supervision!) and clamps next week. We understand that safety is extremely important, so we know we will need to wear protective gloves and follow instructions very carefully.

In Spellings, we have been learning how to apply the rule of dropping the ‘e’ when adding the suffixes -ed, -ing and -er. We are becoming very confident at remembering these rules in our writing and are getting much better at spotting those tricky rule breakers too!

We are especially proud of all the children for showing fantastic resilience and determination as they completed their English and Maths challenges this week. So far, we have worked through spelling, punctuation and grammar challenges in English, whilst in Maths we have been tackling both arithmetic and problem-solving challenges with great focus and perseverance.

Announcements:

We’re excited to share that there will be a Key Stage 1 trip to Shepreth on Monday 13th July. Thank you so much to those of you who have offered to volunteer! Miss D and I will be contacting some of you next week to confirm whether or not you are still able to help!
