Phonics -
A very busy week in phonics! We have continued reading and writing words with 2 digraphs this week, including finger, cheep, and wooden. We have also recapped compound words (words that are made up of 2 root words such as rooftop, popcorn & farmyard). In addition to this, we have also explored words ending in -ing, such as zooming, winking, and chatting.
We have practiced chunking these words to begin with by splitting the words in two zoom/ing, wink/ing, chatt/ing, roof/top, pop/corn, farm/yard, before reading the words with more fluency.
Maths -
This weeks focus has been deepening the children's understanding of the counting system. Activities this week include:
- Counting each object in groups to 10, understanding that the last number counted is the total in the set (cardinal principle).
- Counting up to 10 things that can't be seen, such as jumps, hops, sounds.
- Understanding that the quantity remains the same when objects (up to 10) are counted in a different order.
- Developing strategies to keep track of what has and has not been counted, such as rearranging objects into a line, moving objects as they're counted)
Topic -
To finish off our lovely topic of What grows around us? The children have created their own fact files on an animal or plant of their choice. A range of non-fiction books were on offer, and the children had the opportunity to choose an animal and write/label pictures - lots of brilliant books were made!
Wishing you all a lovely half term, enjoy the sunshine and we look forward to seeing you in June for our final half term!
