Weekly News, Spring B, Week 4

                         20th March 2026

Announcements: The sun shone again on Strathmore this week which was such a lovely change from the cold, wet Winter months that we have had! As the weather continues to improve, we kindly ask that children apply sun cream before school and/or bring cream that they can apply themselves and a hat for sunny days. In other news, in the next few weeks in Art and DT we will be creating our own coronation carriages and 3D sculptures too. We would be very grateful for as many donations as you can spare of the following

- Cereal boxes

- Small shoe boxes/packaging (not too large/too thick to cut)

- Straws

- String

- Bottle caps or other recyclable materials that could be used as wheels

Please feel free to start bringing these materials in from Monday. Thank you for your kindness and support, we cannot wait to see the children's designs.

English: This week, the children have been perfecting their narratives, based upon our class text Julian is a Mermaid. The children have been considering interesting vocabulary that they can use to help to paint an interesting and imaginative picture for the reader. Very well done! In Phonics this week, we have been continuing to review our spelling rules as part of our Bridge to Spelling unit and proudly showed off what we could do to a special visitor from the English Hub this week. We are so proud of your learning and all of the progress that you have made, Year 2.

Maths: This week we have been rounding off our unit on multiplication and division, recapping all that we have learned and applying what we know to carry out calculations which help to build our mathematical fluency and to tackle interesting challenges and word problems too. The children have really grown in confidence to share what they know, building it, proving with evidence and solving problems together. Keep up the fabulous work, Year 2.

Let's hope the sun keeps shining for a little while longer! Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Allan, Miss Sumal and Miss Desmarais
