At Nursery this week, we started our new topic of What happened long, long ago? We started off by sharing the story of the great race. We learnt about how the animals all raced across the river and that is now the order of Chinese Zodiac was decided. We talked about Lunar new year celebrations. We practised using chopsticks to pick up objects and used our scissor skills to make lanterns. In maths we talked about ordinal numbers and had our own running races. We used first, second, third and fourth to describe where we came in the race.
At the creative table we have been using tubes to print circles. This is linked to our learning about Yayoi Kusama who used lots of circles and dots in her art work.
This week we opened a new table in the classroom, the tinker table. On this table the children are able to use their fine motor skills and investigation skills to explore different objects. This week we used screwdrivers to take apart an old computer keyboard. We then explored how the keys fitted back onto it and how we could move them around. We also unscrewed the screws on the back of the keyboard.
Our rhyme of the week was row, row,row your boat. We used our listening ears to identify sounds linked to the song. Our sound of the week was r. We listened for the sound at the beginning of the world’s rainbow, rat and red.
