Weekly News, Spring A, 16th January 2026

Announcements: We are very much looking forward to our trip to Oughotnhead next week! Drop off is at 8.45am and register will be taken on arrival. Please check the email for further details. A polite reminder that no book bags should be brought on our trip although children may bring a small water bottle. Please come to the meeting point in school uniform, with appropriate waterproof clothing and footwear for the weather. Thank you so much to our parent volunteers who have offered to support us, to help make our trip possible.  All wellies and waterproofs in school will be sent home on Monday.

English: This week in English we have been continuing with our unit on fairytales, exploring the story of Rapunzel by Bethan Woolvin. The children have really enjoyed using their senses, considering dialogue between characters and using a variety of connectives to help us to build story maps and detailed descriptions of events. This week we have begun The Bridge to Spelling unit for phonics. This new unit supports children in how to ‘think about spelling’. Over five weeks of daily lessons, we will complete the alphabetic code and learn the underpinning concepts of spelling to help us as we write.

Maths: This week we have started a new unit of learning all about money. We have been exploring different coins and notes and using what we know to make different amounts. In addition, we have been working on our Maths Fluency, revisiting prior concepts to help us tackle unfamiliar problems with confidence. Well done, Year 2!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Allan, Miss Sumal and Miss Desmarais
