Weekly News, Spring A, 9th January 2026

A very warm welcome back to everyone in Year 2! It has been so wonderful to see you all again this week and to hear about the lovely things that you have been up to over the festive period. We would like to say a huge thank you to the children for their beautiful cards, pictures and kind and thoughtful gifts to us all. It was incredibly generous of you and we are so very grateful. We hope that everyone had a fabulous holiday filled with joy, laughter and precious time spent with loved ones.

Announcements: We are very excited to be taking a trip to Oughtonhead on Tuesday 20th January, as part of our Geography unit of learning this term. Please look out for more information via email this week. As always, we are always grateful to any parents who are available to support us on our trips. Please do let us know if you might be available to join us. The trip will take place in the morning and we are so looking forward to exploring Oughtonhead together!

English: This week in English we began a new unit exploring fairytales this week, specifically looking at the story of Rapunzel by Bethan Woolvin. The children have really enjoyed sharing different fairytales and examining different types of sentences: commands, questions and statements. Phonics will start up again next week, however the children have been continuing with their guided reading and will have new books home in their book bags.

Maths: This week we have finished up our unit on 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. The children have blown us away by the progress that they have made and their excitement to explore ever more complex shapes! Well done, Year 2. Next week, we will begin our next unit focusing on money, exploring different notes and coins.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Allan, Miss Sumal and Miss Desmarais
