Another busy week in Reception with more fantastic learning.
Phonics -
Graphemes - v, w, x, y.
Tricky words - and, has, his, her.
And is considered a tricky word because it has adjacent consonants. The 's' in has and his makes a 'z' sound. The digraph 'er' in her has not yet been taught, so is known as a tricky word at this point in the year.
Another week with excellent independent writing from the children in phonics - some words we have written this week include sock, sad, box, hug.
Maths -
This week, the children have continued to engage with activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting – to find out ‘how many’ objects there are. We revisited the concept of 1:1 correspondence by making sure the children match collections of objects to their representations. We have also reinforced the concept of cardinality – that the last number in the count tells us ‘how many’ things there are altogether – and applied this concept to count more abstract things, such as claps and jumps.
Topic -
We have read the lovely story Bloom this week, by Anne Booth. This prompted many discussions about friendship and kindness, as well as caring about the environment around us. We have made our own flower collages using tissue paper, card and buttons - we are excited to hang these on our artwork pegs in the corridor!
Reminders -
Please ensure phonics books are in school every Friday to be changed. If a book is not returned, we are then unable to use that pack of books the following week with a different reading group.
Friday 12th December - festive biscuit decorating in the hall from 2:20.
