English

In English this week, we have become illustrators, creating wonderful drawings for our own versions of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. After revisiting the structure of the original story, the children planned their own versions with three brand-new characters — everything from three snakes trying to reach the sand, to three polar bears on a mission to get to the fish! They also enjoyed swapping the troll for a different mischievous character.
It has been lovely to see their creativity shine, and we are excited to work with them next week as they begin writing simple sentences to bring their stories to life.

Maths

In Maths, we have been consolidating all of our learning on addition and subtraction. The children have been practising confidently using their knowledge to tackle all the different question types we’ve explored this unit.
It is really important that the children are secure with addition and subtraction within 10 before moving on to larger numbers, so any extra practice at home is always greatly appreciated.
In our fluency lessons, we have revisited subitising (counting with our eyes) and used this skill to explore all the different ways to make numbers up to 10.

Topic

Our afternoons have been full of Nativity fun! We are already so impressed with the children during rehearsals — you are going to be incredibly proud of them.
As you’ll have seen, the children have brought home the parts they have been given, along with requests for certain coloured leggings/tops for some roles. Just to clarify: these are not their costumes. These clothes are simply what we would like them to wear under their costumes (which we already have in school), as it can get chilly in the hall and the extra layer helps.
Please do not buy any costumes or spend money on festive outfits — we have plenty of tinsel and everything else they’ll need!
We have attached the song lyrics to this blog, as many children are keen to practise at home. With adult supervision, the songs can easily be found on YouTube by searching “A Wriggly Nativity”.
Some children have small speaking lines, which will be sent home next week. No one has a long or difficult part, and we’ve been practising most lines together in school.

Victorian Workshop

Please look out for an important email regarding this workshop. The date will be changing, and all the updated information will be included in that message.

Communication of this Blog

We’ve received some feedback at the school gates that many families don’t see or know about this blog. If you are a regular reader, we would be so grateful if you could share the link in your class WhatsApp group.
This blog is our main way of sharing updates and celebrating the children’s learning, so your support in helping more parents access it really helps.
