Weekly Newsletter 5

It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers at both learning fairs this past two weeks! We loved sharing the children’s amazing work with you — they’ve achieved so much, and I’m sure you’re as proud of them as we are.

English

This week, we continued our learning around the story Puffin Peter and produced some fantastic writing. The children now know the story really well and have created missing posters for Peter, using descriptive language to help others “spot” him. They also drew and wrote about their favourite part of the story.
Next week, we’ll be getting creative again as the children come up with their own alternative endings for Puffin Peter!

Maths

In Maths, we’ve started exploring addition within 10. The children have been introduced to the part-whole model, learning how to partition numbers into parts and wholes. Building a strong understanding of this now lays the foundation for working confidently with larger numbers later on.
Next week, we’ll continue this learning by exploring fact families and finding all the number bonds for numbers within 10 in a systematic way.

Phonics

This week, we revisited some of our Phase 5 sounds — ay, ou, oy, and ea. Our tricky words for the week were says, said, little, and like. The children have been practising reading and spelling these words in both sentences and independent writing.

Topic

In History, we’ve started sharing our baby and toddler photos, sparking some wonderful discussions about how we’ve grown and changed over time. If you haven’t yet sent in a photo and would like your child to take part, please email it to admin@ this weekend.

In PE, we’ve been developing our jumping skills, inspired by frogs! The children also loved playing a fun team game collecting “eggs” — it’s been great to see how well they’ve worked together and supported one another, especially with different teammates.
