Another busy week in Reception, thank you to all the parents who have signed up to Tapestry. If you haven't yet make sure you sign up to receive updates.

Phonics

Graphemes - ck, e, u, r

Tricky words - I

Tricky words are also known as common exception words (CEW). These are words that cannot be sounded out or decoded as a sound/sounds in the word goes against the typical phonetic rules.

Maths -

The focus this week was exploring how numbers can be composed of 1s and, from this, we began to investigate the composition of 3 and 4. e.g. seeing that 3 can be composed of 1 and 2. The children learned from practical experience that a ‘whole’ is made up of smaller parts and is, therefore, bigger than its parts.

Topic -

We have continued to think about how we and our families are all unique. We created pictures showing what we like to do with our families. In music we listened to Peggy Lee sing 'Sing a Rainbow' and discussed whether we enjoyed listening to the piece of music.

Reading practice -

We have continued reading practice this week and the children are getting really good at talking about what they can see in their book. Another reminder that these books will be changed every Friday, so please ensure they are in school in the named wallet as a new book will not go home until the original is returned.
