Weekly Newsletter 3
Another fantastic week of learning in Year 1. It has been lovely to see the children at playtimes communicating with each other when climbing trees, cooking in the mud kitchen and building obstacle courses!
Announcements:
We welcome Mrs Fox into Year 1 who is a student teacher and has been busy getting to know the children.
Library Day: Tuesday
Book return: Please make sure books are returned every Friday in the named plastic wallet, so that we can swap them for a new one.
History
We have loved seeing all the baby photos coming in this week. There is still time to bring in one baby or toddler photo of themselves next week. Photos can be brought in physically or emailed to admin@strathmore.herts.sch.uk.
English
This week we used our step-by-step instructions to grow our very own cress heads. We are checking them every day to see if there are any changes! We used our purple pens this week to edit our instructions- making sure to check we have capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in our writing.
Maths
In Maths, we found one more and one less of a number. We also compared groups by matching and played dice games to find the greater number.
Phonics
This week we used our phonic knowledge to sound out the words- freshness, driftwood, floating and treetop. We also revisited the tricky words there, were, pure and sure.
Topic
In History, we learnt about what life was like for our grandparents. We looked at old toys, games and what school was like. In Art, we looked at a variety of artists that use line, pattern and colour in their paintings. In PE, we had fun playing team games and moving our body in different ways.
Well done, Year 1!
