Weekly News, Summer A, Week 2
24th April 2026
Announcements: What a wonderful week we have had in Year 2! The children have loved exploring new countries in Geography and patterns and tessellation in art this week which has been such fun. In Science, we have been exploring the life cycle of a butterfly and by happy coincidence we came across a little caterpillar in the playground this week too! Some of the children worked together to make a caterpillar home for him, to make sure he was safe and out of the sun. Great team work, Year 2!
English: This week, the children have been working on our new class text The Lost Homework, which explores to story of a young boy name Sonny who is part of the Romani community. The children have loved learning new vocabulary this week, as well as strengthening their knowledge about how and when to use apostrophes in a sentence. Well done, everyone, you are all superstars!
Maths: This week we have been continuing to explore units of measure - this time using different types of scales to measure the mass of an object. We are improving our skills at estimating the mass of an object, considering whether we might measure in grams or kilograms, and how to read different scales. We even tackled some very tricky problem solving too, using balancing scales and our knowledge of division to help us to find the mass of different objects! Why not get busy in the kitchen at home this weekend, and show your grown ups how well you can measure ingredients? Well done, Year 2!
Another little reminder to please send children to school with hats and sunscreen on hot/warm days. Raincoats and welly boots are also still very much appropriate too, weather dependent. Miss Desmarais would also love any more donations of Pringle lids, if you happen to have any at home. Thank you so much for your support.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
Mrs Allan, Miss Sumal and Miss Desmarais
