Reception Blog week beginning 22.9.25

Reception is in full swing now, we’ve had a busy week of learning!

Announcements -

If you have any kitchen roll tubes would would be grateful for any donations. No toilet roll tubes please.

Phonics -

This week we have learned the sounds i, n, m, d. We have been oral blending e.g. saying ‘s-i-t' to help us hear the sounds in words and have continued to play ‘What’s in the box?’ To support our understanding of initial sounds. The children have been writing these new graphemes on their whiteboards.

English -

This week we started our first English unit which will last for 3 weeks, we are making a book all about ourselves. This week we created our front cover and 1st page, we wrote our names and labelled pictures of our families.

Maths -

This week, the children have been subitising.  When subitising, children can say how many there are in a small group of objects by ‘just seeing’ and knowing straightaway without needing to count.

You can support this learning at home by playing games with dice. Can your child tell you how many dots are on the dice without counting them?

Topic -

This week we have been thinking about how we are all different or unique. We have used mirrors to draw self portraits.
